Story 5: The Conquest of Canaan (1210 BC)
as told in Joshua, Judges, and Ruth

The twelve tribes of Israel would peck and claw their way into what was supposed to be their promised land. But they find themselves caught in a vicious cycle: They cry out to God for victory; God sends them military heroes known as Judges to win back a piece of their promised land; They become complacent, intermingle with the foreign women and their gods, and end up punished by God, who allows them to lose another piece of land as a consequence; They repent, turn back to God; He raises another Judge for them to with a battle; They grow complacent, flirt with the other women and their gods... And the cycle continues. After all, in those days there was no king and everyone did as he saw fit. (Oy!)
